RAGINI

The term “Ragini” is the archaic term (feminine) for the present day term raga. This word owes its origin to Sanskrit, where it means Colour or mood. It is a set of five or more musical notes (Swaras) upon which song or tunes are composed. It works as the tonal framework for composition and improvisation. Ragas were initially associated with different times of the day or with different seasons of the day.

Types of ragas:-
1)Melakarta Ragas – They are the parent rages from which the other ragas are developed. They will always have all the seven swaras in the right order. They are also know as Janaka Ragas.
